Homemade pan pizza is just one of many homemade pizzas I experiment with. Â My interest in homemade pizzas started when I learned that people grill pizza. Â That is an entirely different topic and one that I will tackles as soon as spring comes around.
For this recipe, I am going to use a cast iron skillet and bake in my oven. Â As a teenager I worked at Pizza Hut and I will say that a cast iron skillet is extremely close to what they use for their pan pizzas. Â They put a lot of oil in theirs. Â I am not a fan of soaking it oil, though it would probably make my crust crispier.
Pizza dough is another thing that I have experimented with a lot.  I am still far from having it right.  For this recipe, I used my homemade bread and added some Italian seasoning and oregano to it.
This is, however, my first attempt at a homemade pizza sauce. Â It turned out pretty good. Â I will probably add some fresh garlic next time but this a good sauce.
One of the most important aspects of a pizza is the choice of cheese. Â For this pizza I purchased some mozzarella with herbs from the butcher shop in town that carries local cheeses. Â This cheese came from Dimock Cheese. Â Buy blocked cheese and shred it yourself. Â Pre-shredded cheese has a waxy coating on it that prevents it from melting how you’d like. Â Getting a good cheese and shredding it yourself really helps with both the look and taste of your pizza.

Ingredients
Homemade Pizza Sauce
- 1 cans tomato sauce
- 1 cans tomato paste
- 1 tablespoons italian seasoning
- 1 teaspoons garlic salt
- 1 teaspoons oregano
Homemade Pizza Crust
- 2 cups flour
- 2.25 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1.5 teaspoons honey
- .75 cups warm water
- 1 tablespoons italian seasoning
- 1 tablespoons oregano
Pizza Toppings
- 1/2 cups italian sausage
- 1 cups mozzarella cheese shredded
Instructions
Homemade Pizza Crust
- Add yeast to warm water and let sit for 10 minutes
- Add remaining ingredients to mixing bowl or blender with dough blade
- Add water and yeast to mixer/blender
- Add water and yeast to mixer/blender
- Add dough to greased bread pan and cover with plastic wrap
- Let raise while you make pizza sauce
Homemade Pizza Sauce
- Add tomato sauce to blender
- Add tomato paste to blender
- Add italian seasoning, oregano, garlic salt and pepper
- Mix until blended
Pizza
- Cover inside of cast iron skillet with butter
- Spread pizza crust across bottom and sides of pan
- Spread pizza sauce over pizza crust
- Add a small amount of shredded cheese
- Add desired toppings
- Cover with remaining cheese
- Bake or grill at 450 degrees until cheese is melted and crust is golden brown
