Beef Tips In Gravy

Beef Tips In Gravy

Beef tips in gravy is a meal that my mom always made as a kid.  Seared beef stew meat cooked slow in the crockpot all day long while our house smelled of home cooked food.  After smelling it cooking all day long you scoop the hunks of beef soaked in gravy over some soft, warm egg noodles.  Serve it with a piece of toast made from home made bread.

I generally get pre-cubed beef stew meat at my local butcher shop.  You can also make this with a cubed steak but it will cost a little more.  Like most beef cuts, you can buy more meaty expensive meats or more fatty inexpensive meats.

As a child we always had this over warm egg noodles but I have tried it with rice and mashed potatoes as well.

I make my beef tips in gravy in a dutch oven. However, it can be made in a crockpot as well.  Put your raw beef, water and onion soup mix in a crockpot and set on low all day long.  I have made it several times like this.  Prepare it before work and then just make your noodles and serve for supper that evening.

All corn starch to set for a moment before adding more.  It takes it a little bit to set up and thicken your sauce.  If you add too much it will get lumpy.
