Taco Pie is from a family cookbook that my wife’s family was given at Christmas years ago. Â I think? Â I’ve been making this recipe for years now. Â Part taco, part pizza;Â taco pie is a great Mexican style dish that will serve a family of 4 easily.
Crispy chips, taco meat, sour cream and shredded cheese on a golden crust.
This recipe also spawned my Chicken Bacon Ranch Pie recipe.  Making a crust in a pan and filling it with assorted meats, cheeses and sauces is a great way to experiment with flavors.  This method could work good for a chili bake of some sort too.  I will try that soon and post a recipe.
I occasionally get bored of your traditional Mexican recipes like tacos, burritos or Chicken Enchiladas.  This recipe and Taco Stuffed Shells are good americanized foods when you’re tired of the regular and  want to try something different.  My six year old even likes taco pie and he rarely tries anything new.
You make this entirely in one cast iron pan or you can cook it in a regular frying pan and bake it in a standard glass dish as well.  I am looking forward to trying it at a campsite on a grill or open fire this coming summer.  I might try it with some steak instead of ground beef.
