Homemade stromboli is basically garlic bread stuffed with pizza.  You roll your favorite pizza toppings and cheese up in pizza dough like a large pizza roll.  I used my Homemade Bread I recipe for the dough.  If you don’t want to make your own dough you could try pizza dough mix.  I have also had success with frozen bread dough or pre-made pizza crust dough.
Stromboli uses sliced cheese rather than the shredded cheese a traditional pizza uses. Â It works with shredded cheese but it makes it more difficult to roll. Â There also tends to be a larger selection of sliced cheeses at the grocery store. Â Try difference kinds of cheeses.
Fill the pizza dough with your favorite toppings and cheese. Â I have tried this with everything from pepperoni and pineapple to smoked chicken and beer cheese. Â I typically make it with pizza sauce on the side, but it could be put inside too.
Roll everything up and cook until the crust is golden brown. Â When cooked through, brush with melted butter and garlic salt. Â Serve with a bowl of hot pizza sauce for dipping.
Experiment with this recipe. Â Use different doughs, cheeses and toppings until you find the perfect combination.
