Atomic buffalo turds…. A what?
An Atomic Buffalo Turd is basically a jalapeño popper style pig in a blanket. These can be a good pot luck item for parties and game day. Make them ahead of time and cook them in an air fryer or stove if available. You can also cook them ahead of time and keep them warm in a crockpot.
Jalapeño poppers are an appetizer that has come quite popular and available over the years. They used to be an item you would only find at a sports bar or bowling alley. Now days you can get them at the grocery store or even fast food restaurants. These aren’t your traditional breaded jalapeño popper deep fried and crispy. Atomic Buffalo Turds aren’t breaded or fried. They take your traditional, bacon wrapped popper and throw a lil’ smokie in the middle.
This appetizer will go great with wings or any other bar style food. I make them frequently with some Buffalo Wings and some craft beer.
Precooked bacon works the best if you want your jalapeños more spicy. Regular raw bacon works too, but requires you to cook them longer and the jalapeños lose a bit of potency. This can also lead to the filling getting too hot and leaking outside of the bacon.
Throw them in a cast iron pan and cook them on your barbecue grill and give them an even better flavor.

Atomic Buffalo Turds
Equipment
- Medium cast iron skillet
Ingredients
- 6 jalepenos
- 8 ounces cream cheese
- 1/2 packages cheese filled lil smokies
- 1/2 cups shredded cheese
- 6 slices pre-cooked bacon
- 12 toothpicks
Instructions
- Cut jalapenos in half and scrape out seeds with a spoon
- Fill each jalepeno half with cream cheese
- Push a lil smokie into the cream cheese
- Wrap each jalepeno with bacon and hold together with a toothpick
- Place in pan and cover with shredded cheese
- Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes
