Cream cheese wontons are something I order pretty much every time I get Chinese food. Â I also frequently purchase the frozen ones and make them alongside stir fry.
For something as simple as they are, there are a lot of varieties out there. Â I have ordered them from multiple restaurants and they are almost always different. Â Frequently they have crab meat added to them and are called crab rangoon. Â I am not a huge seafood fan and therefor prefer just plain wontons.
I generally end up with far too many wonton wrappers and need to do some more experiments with variations of this recipe.  There are endless possibilities for the things you could stuff into a wonton wrapper.  Diced jalapeños come immediately to mind.
I have cooked cream cheese wontons a number of ways. Â This time, I cooked them in my air fryer. Â You can also bake them or fry them in a deep fryer. Â They really are a quick and easy side dish or appetizer. Â While they take a bit more work, these are much more cost efficient. Â For essentially the cost of a block of cream cheese you will get two to three times what you will from the grocery store.
The last time I made these I paired them with teriyaki chicken stir fry, but I have made them just to snack on before too.
