Blackberry bourbon meatballs is a recipe I learned from an old football blog I followed. We would share game day food recipes frequently and it turned into a weekly recipe post.
One of the blog members shared a recipe for making meatballs with barbecue sauce and grape jelly. It sounded weird to add jelly to meatballs but I’ll try just about anything. As it turns out, jelly with barbecue sauce is a great combination. It adds a sweetness to the meatballs that blends perfectly.
I have now been making these for quite a few years and have slowly experiments with the ingredients. The winning recipe, for me, is blackberry jelly and bourbon barbecue sauce. This was made with a Stubbs Hickory Bourbon BBQ Sauce that is available in most grocery stores.
You can make this recipe in the matter of 5-10 minutes and then just let it simmer all day long. Just add all ingredients to a cast iron dutch oven or a crockpot and cook on a low temperature. If you put it in a crockpot it’s very portable and great to bring to a pot luck party. The super bowl is coming up in a couple weeks. Bring these blackberry bourbon meatballs in a crockpot and you will come home with an empty crockpot.
